Light,cut by hand

cut by hand

Paintings built from paint, texture and hand-cut mirror. They are quiet in the dark and restless the moment the sun finds them. Keep scrolling, and the room wakes up.

Scroll into the light

In the dark, glass is only glass.

It takes a window, a lamp, a bit of morning. Then the surface stops being flat and starts holding light the way water does. The same piece gives you two different rooms in one day.

Every shard is scored, snapped and set by hand.

01

Score

A single line drawn across the glass. No second attempt, the surface remembers the first one.

02

Snap

The glass decides where it breaks. I follow where it wants to go, and the painting follows the glass.

03

Set

Pressed into wet texture at an angle. That angle is what throws light back across your room.

01 · Available

Drift, hand-cut bronze mosaic painting of a turtle, 36 inch round

Drift

Hand-cut bronze mosaic, texture paste · 36" diameter

$650

Bronze does not flash the way mirror does. It warms, slowly, and the whole circle moves like something under water.

02 · Available

Night Bloom, thin-cut mirror and gold leaf peony on black, 36 by 36 inches

Night Bloom

Precise thin-cut mirror, texture paste, gold leaf · 36" x 36"

$1200

Built on black on purpose. In daylight the mirror cuts the petals open, under a lamp the gold takes over and the black goes soft.

03 · Available

Fathom, mosaic and epoxy resin seahorse painting, 24 by 48 inches

Fathom

Mosaic, texture paste, epoxy resin · 24" x 48"

$1200

Tall and narrow, for the wall everyone gives up on. The resin holds the light down inside the piece instead of bouncing it straight back.

04 · Available

Plume, mosaic parrot painting, 24 inch round

Plume

Mosaic, texture paste · 24" diameter

$1200

The loudest piece I have made, and the one people stand closest to. Every feather is a separate decision about where the light lands.

05 · Available

Kin, gold leaf leopards painting, 30 by 40 inches

Kin

Gold leaf · 30" x 40"

$800

No mirror in this one at all. Gold leaf does something quieter, it holds the light instead of throwing it, and the room stays calm.

06 · Available

Crosswind, hand-cut mirror and rock crystal swallows, 24 inch round

Crosswind

Hand-cut mirror, texture paste, gold leaf, rock crystals · 24" diameter

$850

Mirror throws light across the room, crystals hold it and break it into colour. Two birds, two ways of answering the sun.

Now send me your wall

One photo of the room, taken in daylight, and the width of the furniture underneath. I will tell you which piece belongs there, with a price and a date. If none of them fit, I will say that too.
